Student overalls

With overalls, you don’t have to worry about your best party clothes getting messy; each stain is a sign of a good student life. During your studies, you can collect overall badges by obtaining them from VAMOK, subject organizations, or by participating in various local and national student events.

The overall culture, which spread properly in Finland in the 1980s, is now one of the most significant symbols of student status. Students with their colorful overalls are a familiar sight in many cities, especially in Vaasa, where one-fifth of the city’s residents are higher education students. Overalls can be worn at almost any student event, both in Vaasa and around Finland. Essential to the overalls are the overall badges, which can be both bought and received from various events and directly from student councils. The color of the overalls often varies according to the field of study, and this is also the case at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences. For example, engineering students have black overalls, business students have green, social studies students have yellow, and healthcare students have white.

Overalls are ordered under the guidance of tutors on specific days in the fall and spring. Tutors notify their groups of the fitting day when the overalls are ordered and paid for. A good size for overalls is one that allows for warm clothing underneath in winter. More information about acquiring overalls can be obtained from your own tutors.
